Freshman Netter Advances To Semis Of Rice Tennis Classic

HOUSTON - Julie DeRoo, a freshman on the Ole Miss women's tennis team, advanced to the semifinals in flight B singles at the Rice Tennis Classic, Friday at Jake Hess Tennis Stadium.
DeRoo, competing in her first collegiate tournament, downed Kelly Craycraft of LSU 6-2, 6-1 and then defeated Monica Sekulov of Kansas 6-2, 6-4 to advance to the semifinals. She will face Prim Siripipat of Duke in the semifinals Saturday at 10 a.m.
Alesya Ignatieva won her first-round match, a 6-1, 6-4 decision over Lucie Dvorakova (TCU), before falling to Erica Biro of Duke 6-3, 6-1 in the quarterfinals. She will play Vladka Uhlirova (Texas) in the winners bracket Saturday at 9:30 a.m.
In doubles, Ignatieva and DeRoo teamed up to post an 8-4 win against Cheryl Mallahiah and Tiffany Chang. They will meet Charlotte Feasby and Erin Waters of Rice in the quarterfinals at 1 p.m.
