Rebel Netter Advances To Qualifying's Second Round

AUSTIN, Texas -- Ole Miss men's tennis player Kristofer Stahlberg advanced to the second round of qualifying at the Reebok/ITA All-American Championships Tuesday at Penick- Allison Tennis Center.

Stahlberg, a sophomore on the Rebel squad, defeated Martin Jirak of TCU 6-3, 6-3. He will face Arizona's Ed Carter in the second round. If he wins, Stahlberg will advance to Thursday's main draw.

Freshman Alexander Hartman, after reaching the finals of the Southern Collegiate Championships Sunday, lost his match to Petr Koula of TCU 6-3, 6-4. In doubles, Hartman and Martin Selin droppped a 7-6(2), 6-2 decision to Erik Dmytrik and Scott Kintz of California in the first round.

The All-American Championships is the second leg of the collegiate grand slam. The tournament features a 64-player singles and a 32-team doubles draw. A total of 48 players qualified automatically for the main draw with 16 advancing from the qualifying tournament. Junior James Shortall and Selin were automatic qualifiers into the main draw.

Doubles first round -- Erik Dmytrik/Scott Kintz (CAL) def. Hartman/Martin Selin (OM) 7-6(2), 6-2.
