Shortall Advances To Second Round At All-American Championships

AUSTIN, Texas - Ole Miss men's tennis player James Shortall advanced to the second round of main draw singles at the Reebok/ITA All-American Championships Thursday at the Penick-Allison Tennis Center.
Shortall, a junior on the Rebel squad, defeated 39th-ranked Vladimir Pavicevic of UNLV 6-2, 7-6(7). He will face 59th-ranked Jose Sanchez of VCU in the second round Friday.
Martin Selin and Kristofer Stahlberg both lost in the first round of the main draw. Selin dropped a 6-4, 6-3 decision to Daniel Andersson, also of VCU, while Stahlberg fell to Texas A&M's Shuon Madden 6-2, 6-3. Andersson is ranked 16th in the nation, while Madden is 12th. Both will play in consolation,which begins Friday.
In doubles, Shortall and Stahlberg took the No. 1 team in the nation, Dumitru Caradima and Madden, (Texas A&M) to the brink of elimination, before losing a hard fought match 6-7 (5), 6-4, 7-6 (5).
