OXFORD, Miss. - Junior forward Rahim Lockhart scored 12 points and grabbed four rebounds to highlight the Ole Miss men's basketball first intra-squad scrimmage of the preseason on Saturday. Senior Marcus Hicks added 10 points, two rebounds and two blocks, while sophomore Darrian Brown scored nine points.
The intra-squad scrimmage consisted of one 10-minute period and two five-minute periods. The Red team won all three periods, posting a 32-10 win in the first 10 minutes and 17-6 and 9-7 victories in the next two five-minute sessions.
"Our players gave a good effort today, but we still have a long way to go," said Ole Miss head coach Rod Barnes. "Our veterans played well today, and that's what I expected from them. The new players showed improvement from their first practice last Saturday (Oct. 16), but they still have a lot to learn."
Lockhart scored his 12 points on 4-of-5 shooting from the field and 4-of-6 from the charity stripe. Hicks was 4-of-5 from the field, including 1-of-1 from the three-point line, while Brown was 4-of-6 from the floor and 1-of-1 from the arc.
Junior college transfer Jason Holmes had a good performance in his first Rebel scrimmage, netting 11 points on 4-of-6 from the floor and 2-of-4 from the three-point line. Holmes also had six assists and two steals. Sophomore Jason Harrison added eight points and three assists.
The Rebels will continue preseason practices next week, and will hold a second intra-squad scrimmage next Saturday (Oct. 30).
Ole Miss will hold its first exhibition game on Nov. 5 against Spirit Express at 7:00 p.m. The Rebels then will host its second exhibition contest on Nov. 13 against the Ukraine Select team at 7:00 p.m. Ole Miss' regular-season opener is scheduled for Nov. 19 versus Jacksonville State at 7:30 p.m.
