Rebels Win Four Matches Against Mississippi State

OXFORD, Miss. -- The Ole Miss men's tennis team won four of 10 matches against Mississippi State on the first day of competition in the Mississippi Invitational Friday, at the Women's Sports Complex.

The day started with the Rebels claiming two of the three doubles matches.

Freshman Alexander Hartman teamed up with Fredrik Mellin to post an 8-2 win over Jeremy Bayon and Rene-Charles Combette. State's Mathieu Soto and Chris McDonald downed Bo Petro and David Blackburn 8-2, and then the sophomore duo of Martin Selin and Kristofer Stahlberg won a tiebreaker, 9-8(4) against MSU's David Ruiz and newcomer Jerome LeBelicard.

In singles, the Bulldogs won five of the seven matches. Hartman and Stahlberg were the lone singles winners for the Rebels. Hartman was down 4-1 in the first set to 65th-ranked Bayon before storming back to force a tiebreaker. He went on to win the second set for a 7-6(4), 6-2 decision. Stahlberg defeated State's Soto 6-1, 2-6, 6-2.

Tomorrow's matches will feature a different lineup in singles and doubles, with play beginning at 11:00 a.m., at the Women's Sports Complex.
