Women's Tennis Player Wins At Rice Tennis Classic

HOUSTON - Ole Miss women's tennis player Julie DeRoo downed Daria Zoldakova of TCU 6-3, 6-1 to capture the Flight B singles title at the Rice Tennis Classic Sunday at Jake Hess Tennis Stadium.
DeRoo, competing in her first collegiate tournament, became the second Lady Rebel this year to win a title in her tournament debut. Mira Radu won the Roberta Alison Fall Classic in her first collegiate tournament. DeRoo did not drop a set in the entire tournament.
In the first round DeRoo downed Kelly Craycraft of LSU 6-2, 6-1 and then she beat Monica Sekulov of Kansas 6-2, 6-4 in the quarterfinals. DeRoo defeated Prim Siripipat of Duke 6-4, 6-3 in the semifinals.
The tournament field included players from Rice, Tulane, LSU, TCU, Kansas, Duke, Texas and Lamar.
In the Flight A winners bracket, Alesya Ignatieva dominated Texas' Ziva Grasic 6-2, 6-1 and in Flight B consolation, Irena Mihailova came back to beat Jeri Gonzales of Rice 3-6, 6-4,6- 4. In Flight consolation, Camilla Gould defeated Stacey Sabala (TCU) 6-1, 7-5.
