Men's Hoops Shoots For Exhibition Game

OXFORD, Miss. - The 1999-2000 Ole Miss Rebel basketball team will tip off its exhibition season on Friday, Nov. 5 against Spirit Express. Game time is 7:00 p.m. (CT) at Tad Smith Coliseum.
Friday's exhibition contest will begin a big "Red & Blue" weekend on the Ole Miss campus. The No. 23 nationally-ranked Rebel football team will host Arkansas on Saturday, Nov. 6 at 5:00 p.m. (CT), and then the Lady Rebel basketball squad will wrap up the weekend with its first exhibition game on Sunday, Nov. 7 against the Houston Jags. Game time for Sunday is 2:00 p.m. (CT) at Tad Smith Coliseum.
"This weekend will be a great time to be on campus for the Ole Miss fans," said Ole Miss head coach Rod Barnes. "We have our first exhibition game on Friday, then our football team has a huge game against Arkansas on Saturday. The women's team has its first exhibition contest on Sunday. The enthusiasm for Rebel athletics is high right now, and we want to keep that momentum going. It will be a tremendous weekend for Ole Miss athletics."
At Friday night's exhibition game, Ole Miss, in conjunction with the Oxford-Lafayette Food Pantry, Inc., will hold a food drive at the men's basketball exhibition game.
Each fan is asked to bring four canned goods to the area in front of the ticket office at Tad Smith Coliseum. Each fan then will exchange the canned goods for a ticket to the exhibition game. Tables to take donations for the food pantry will open at 6:00 p.m. Regular game tickets for Friday's exhibition are $5.
"The Ole Miss athletic department and our basketball program believe in working in our community and giving something back to it for all the support it gives us," said Ole Miss head coach Rod Barnes, who is in his second year. "I would like to encourage all of our fans to come out and help support the Oxford community in this cause. Even if you are not a basketball fan, please come and support the community in this effort for the food pantry."
Following Friday's exhibition, the Ole Miss men's basketball team will host a second exhibition game on Nov. 13 against the Ukraine Select Team at 7:00 p.m. The Rebels open regular-season play on Nov. 19 with a home game versus Jacksonville State at 7:30 p.m.
