Lady Rabel Tennis Advances In Competiton

MOBILE, Ala. -- Five members of the Ole Miss women's tennis team advanced to the next round Friday at the ITA South Regional Tournament at the Mobile Tennis Center.
In the "A" Singles flight, sixth-seeded Julie DeRoo defeated Central Florida's Veronica Widyadharma 6-2, 6-1, then took out South Alabama's Iva Puflerova 7-6(0), 6-7(7), 6-2 in a tough second-round match. DeRoo plays top-seeded Whitney Laiho from Florida Saturday at 9 a.m. in the round of 16.
Also in the "A" flight, Mira Radu is in the third round after taking out USA's Vanda Novakova 6-3, 6-3 in the first round and Georgia's Kelly Baskin 7-6, 6-4 in the second. Celeste Frey is also in the round of 16 with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Marta Kostmounva from Bethune-Cookman in round one and a 6-2, 6-7 (0), 7-6 (1) victory over Amelie Derriviere of MSU in round two.
Ivona Mihailova downed Mississippi State's Carole Soubis 6-1, 6-2 to advance to the second round, where she faces Miami's Alanna Broderick.
In the "B" Singles flight, Camilla Gould advanced to the round of 16 with a close second-round win over Central Florida's Daniela Okal, 3-6, 7-6 (0), 7-6 (3).
Mariana Eberle defeated South Alabama's Anke Roos 7-6(0), 6-1 in the first round, but fell to Florida's Traci Green 6-4, 6-3 in the second. Irena Mihailova dropped her opening round match to Julia Scaringe of Florida 7-6(0), 6-2, while Alesya Ignatieva lost to Andrea Piski of Auburn 6-2, 6-2. Julie Chavrat received a first-round bye and was ousted by Alabama's Dominique Glinzler 6-1, 6-0 in the next round.
