Lady Rebels Post Best Finish Ever at SEC Championships

OPELIKA, Ala. - Ole Miss senior Megan Breen shot a two-over par 74 to lead the Lady Rebel golf team to a third-place finish at the Southeastern Conference Women's Golf Championships on Sunday. The third-place finish is the best ever by the Lady Rebel golf program at the SEC Championships, as its previous best finish was sixth last season.
Breen and junior Robyn Rinaldo both were named to the All-SEC first team, becoming the first two golfers in the history of the Lady Rebel program to earn conference first team accolades.
"I am so proud of the way this team played at the championships," said Ole Miss head coach Keil Purdom. "Our golfers showed a lot of heart and determination, and they have shown that all of their hard work has paid off. Our team now has the confidence to compete against the best in the nation, and we proved that we are one of the top programs in the country."
The Lady Rebels placed third with a three-round score of 913. Ole Miss shot a 300 in the final round. Georgia won the SEC title with a score of 887, with Tennessee placing second at 905. With their third-place finish, the Lady Rebels placed ahead of No. 14 Auburn, No. 15 South Carolina and No. 16 LSU. Georgia is ranked No. 3, while Tennessee is No. 13. Ole Miss is ranked No. 29 in the latest national rankings.
For the second straight round, Breen shot a two-over par 74, and finished the tournament tied for fifth with a total of 225. Junior Robyn Rinaldo finished the SEC Championships tied for 18th after shooting a final-round 80. She carded a three-day score of 232.
Freshman Kim Tudor posted a top-10 finish in her first SEC Championships, placing eighth. Tudor carded a final round of 74, and finished the tournament with a total of 229. Sophomore Marci Kornegay also finished among the top-20 golfers, as she tied for 14th. Kornegay, who was 31st after round one, shot a final-round 75 to finish with a three-day score of 231. Sophomore Teresa Brown finished tied for 32nd with a score of 238.
Georgia's Shauna Estes won the SEC individual title with a six-under par 210.
