Men's Basketball Defeats North Melbourne, 75-56

OXFORD, Miss. - Senior All-America candidate Keith Carter scored a game- high 19 points and junior Marcus Hicks added 12 points to lead Ole Miss to a 75-56 exhibition-game victory over North Melbourne on Monday. The game was the Rebels' final exhibition before the season opener on Nov. 13 versus Alabama State.
Senior Johnnie Rogers and sophomore Rahim Lockhart also netted double figures for the Rebels as each scored 10 points apiece. Senior Jason Smith led Ole Miss on the boards with nine rebounds. North Melbourne's Cameron Mack led the Giants' scoring attack with 15 points, while Antione Howard added 13 points. Mack also led the Giants in rebounding with 11 boards.
Ole Miss led 6-3 three minutes into the game, but then went on a 22-11 run over the next 10 minutes to take a 28-14 lead. The Rebels extended their lead to as many as 18 points at 36-18 at the five-minute mark, before holding a 40- 27 halftime advantage, in the second half, Ole Miss built its advantage to as many as 31 points at 68-37.
The Rebels shot 43.5 percent from the field, while holding the Giants to 30.5 percent shooting from the floor. Ole Miss also won the battle of the boards, out-rebounding North Melbourne, 51-39.
Ole Miss opens regular-season play on Friday, Nov. 13 versus Alabama State at 7:00 p.m. at Tad Smith Coliseum.
