Soileau Receives Lady Rebel Soccer MVP

OXFORD, Miss. -- Freshman Jennifer Soileau received the Ole Miss Lady Rebel soccer team Most Valuable Player award at the team's annual banquet on Thursday. Sophomore Jenny Curry received the squad's Most Inspirational Player honor, while freshman Sara Schauberger earned the team's Most Improved Player award.
A native of Baton Rouge, La., Soileau started all 20 games at midfield in her first season at Ole Miss. She led the team in scoring (31 points), goals scored (11) and assists (9). Named the Southeastern Conference Player of the Week on Oct. 27, Soileau also led the squad in game-winning goals with four and was named to the Port City Classic All-Tournament team.
Curry, a Fort Walton Beach, Fla., native, saw action in seven contests during the 1997 season. The sophomore forward netted two goals last year, with both scores coming in the Lady Rebels' 8-0 victory over Tennessee Tech on Oct. 31. The two-goal performance was also the first multple-goal game of her career. In her two-year career at Ole Miss, Curry has played in 25 games and has scored six points (two goals, two assists).
Schauberger joined the Lady Rebel squad as a walk-on in the middle of the 1997 campaign, and worked her way into the the starting lineup in two late-season contests. She received her first start in Ole Miss' 4-1 victory over Tennessee (Oct. 24) and got her next start in the Lady Rebels' game versus Florida in the first round of the Southeastern Conference Tournament on Nov. 6. A Russellville, Ky., native, the freshman defender played in seven games.
The Lady Rebels finished their 1997 season with an 11-9 overall record and a 4-4 SEC mark. The 1997 Ole Miss squad earned the program's first-ever berth in the SEC Tournament last fall.
Ole Miss will open its 1998 season on Sept. 1 versus Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg, Miss. The Lady Rebels will host their home opener at the Ole Miss Soccer Stadium on Sept. 5 with a 12:00 p.m. game versus Chattanooga.
