OXFORD, Miss. -- The Ole Miss women's rifle team shot a 1384 at the Austin Peay State Invitational, the Lady Rebels' first tournament of the year, and placed fifth at the tournament on Saturday.
Freshman Jill Barnes of Jackson, Miss., led the Lady Rebels with a career-high 370. Jessica Crockett, a junior from Brown Deer, Wis., also fired a career-high 366.
Jennifer McKinney, a freshman from West Point, Miss., shot a 347, and Cinnamon Pugh, a senior from Starkville, Miss., shot a 301. Samantha Ball, a junior from New Albany, Miss., competed individually and shot a 268.
Morehead State came in first with 1503, followed by UT-Martin with a 1468. Memphis and Austin Peay shot a 1422.
The Austin Peay State Invitational was the first tournament for most of the members of the Lady Rebel rifle team, but Ole Miss head coach Valerie Boothe said the tournament gave her players a great deal of experience.
"Jessica was the only one to come into this year with any collegiate shooting experience," Boothe said. "I am proud of the team for competing as well as they did. They reached their first goal they set for themselves, which was a 1375, so it's something to build on for the rest of the year."
The Ole Miss rifle team will take on Austin Peay in a dual match Nov. 1 at 8 a.m. in Oxford, Miss.
