MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The Ole Miss women's rifle team shot a season-high 1412 and finished second at the Tiger Invitational, hosted by Memphis over the weekend.
Memphis won the tournament by firing a 1492. St. Louis was third with a 1351, followed by the Arkansas club team with a 1266, Tennessee-Martin with a 1244 and Alabama- Birmingham with an 1143.
Jessica Crockett, a junior from Brown Deer, Wis., led the Lady Rebels with a career-high 368, followed by freshman Jill Barnes of Jackson, Miss., with a 359. Cinnamon Pugh, a senior from Louisville, Miss., came in third with a career-high 350, followed by Jennifer McKinney, a freshman from West Point, Miss., with a 335.
Individually, junior Samantha Ball of New Albany, Miss., shot a 285, and senior Tiffani Norman of Little Rock, Ark., shot a 245 in the first match of her career.
Ole Miss head coach Valerie Boothe said she was proud of the team for reaching their goal of 1400 for the first time this year.
"We are coming into the most intense part of the season," Boothe said. "There is little time to practice in between matches. These Lady Rebels are proving that they are making each one count. They worked hard and achieved another team goal, and for that I was really pleased with their performance over the weekend."
Ole Miss will be in action again this weekend as the Lady Rebels will participate in the Tennessee-Martin Invitational on Friday and the Withrow Invitational on Saturday.
