Women's Rifle Team Fires Season High

OXFORD, Miss. - The Ole Miss women's rifle team competed in two tournaments and a dual match over the weekend and shot a season high 1387 at the Kentucky Invitational on Sunday.
Jill Barnes, a freshman from Jackson, Miss., led the Lady Rebels at Kentucky with a 360, followed by freshman Jennifer McKinney of West Point, Miss., with a career-high 358. Jessica Crockett, a junior from Brown Deer, Wis., was third with a 357, and Cinnamon Pugh, a senior from Louisville, Miss., added a 312. Samantha Ball, a junior from New Albany, Miss., competed individually and shot a 296.
After the first weekend of competition at Kentucky, the Lady Rebels were ahead of Nebraska, Mercer and Texas A&M. The tournament, which includes 10 teams, ends this weekend.
On Saturday, Ole Miss shot a 1365 in a dual match at the University of Akron but lost the match. Barnes led the Lady Rebels with a 361, followed by McKinney with a 343. Crockett shot a 338, and Pugh added a career-high 323. Ball shot a 300 individually.
The Lady Rebels also competed at the Walsh Invitational, hosted by Xavier University. The tournament field consists of 23 college teams and 13 junior rifle club teams, and each team competes on Friday, Saturday or Sunday during the four-week long tournament.
Ole Miss participated in the second weekend of the tournament on Friday and shot a 1368. Barnes led the Lady Rebels once again with a 365, followed by Crockett with a 354. McKinney added a 337, while Pugh shot 312. Ball fired a career-high 322.
"I am proud of the team for competing over the weekend," Ole Miss head coach Valerie Boothe said. "We started off slowly, but we finished up pretty well."
Ole Miss returns to action Nov. 15 with a dual match against Memphis at noon on the Ole Miss campus.
