Carter Leads Rebels Past Bulldogs

OXFORD, Miss. (AP) - Keith Carter scored 26 points, including five 3-pointers, and Mississippi shot 51 percent from the field in an 85-76 victory over Georgia on Saturday.

Carter became the Rebels' all-time 3-point shot leader with 218, breaking the mark of 214 by Joe Harvell, who played for the Rebels from 1990-93. Carter helped Ole Miss (14-6, 4-3 Southeastern Conference) build a 55-36 lead in the opening minute of the second half.

The Rebels, playing without starting forward Rahim Lockhart who is serving an indefinite suspension pending shoplifting charges, forced Georgia into 19 turnovers.

Georgia (12-7, 3-4) cut the second-half lead with an 11-0 run to make the score 55-47 with 14:55 remaining. Five different Bulldogs scored in the run, capped by a tip-in by Jumaine Jones, who led Georgia with 16 points and 14 rebounds.

The Rebels stopped the rally with 3-point shots by Jason Harrison and Carter, pushing the advantage to 63-51. Georgia managed a final run, getting within six at 75-69 on Ray Harrison's 3-pointer with 4:51 left.

Ole Miss put the game away with an 8-2 run highlighted by a slam from Carter off an assist from Michael White. The Bulldogs never got within six points in the final two minutes.

Georgia lost its third consecutive road game.

Darrian Brown scored 13 points for the Rebels. Jason Harrison and Marcus Hicks had 11 for Ole Miss.

The Rebels led 48-36 at the half.

Georgia took a 9-4 lead early in the first half, but Ole Miss answered with a 17-4 run to take control of the game.

D.A. Layne had 14 points and Michael Chadwick scored 12 for Georgia. G.G. Smith added 11 for the Bulldogs.
