Lady Netters Fall to Arkansas at SEC Tourney

LEXINGTON, Ky. The No. 6 nationally-ranked Ole Miss women's tennis team dropped a 5-1 decision to the University of Arkansas in the second round of the SEC Championships Friday, at the Hilary J. Boone Tennis Center.
With the loss, the Lady Rebels fall to 16-5 overall and 8-4 in the SEC. Arkansas, 20th-ranked, improves to 18-7 overall and 8-4 in the SEC.
"Arkansas played an excellent match," Head Coach Jerry Montgomery said. "They are a much improved team and they did a good job of coming through down the stretch."
Brandy Brown downed Martina Crha 6-2, 6-1 at No. 5 singles and Kendra Howard dominated Mariana Eberle 6-2, 6-3 at No. 4 singles to give the Lady Razorbacks a 2-0 lead. Eberle had her seven match winning streak stopped with the loss.
Agnes Muzamel scored the only point for the Lady Rebels, defeating Maria Pavlidou 6-4, 6-1 at the top spot to pull to within 2-1, but Arkansas quickly made it 3-1 as Louise Ostling defeated Courtenay Chapman 6-2, 7-6(4) at No. 2 singles.
The remaining two matches went three sets with Arkansas winning both. Andrea Ho took a 6-3, 3-6, 6-2 victory over Ivona Mihailova at No. 3 singles, and Adriana Garcia, after splitting two tiebreakers with Missy Brewer, won the third set easily 6-1, to clinch the match.
The Lady Rebels must now wait and see if they have to play in a regional or if they will receive an automatic bid to the NCAA Team Championships, which take place May 21-29 at Notre Dame.
