Lady Rebels Finish Tenth in LSU-Fairwood Invitational
6/21/1999 | Women's Golf
March 14, 1999
BATON ROUGE, La. - The Ole Miss women's golf team, led by Megan Breen's 10th-place performance, picked up its eighth top 10 finish of the year as the Lady Rebels came in 10th in the LSU-Fairwood Invitational Sunday with a two-round total of 650. The tournament was reduced to a 36-hole event after rain and lightning forced the second round to be canceled Saturday.
Breen, a senior from Longwood, Fla., shot a 75-80--155 to tie for 10th place. It is Breen's seventh top 10 finish this year, which breaks the record for top 10 finishes in a season by a Lady Rebel. The previous record was six by Sarah Britt in the 1989-90 season and also in the 1992-93 season. Breen also broke the Ole Miss record for career top 10 finishes with 18. Britt also held that record, posting 17 top 10 finishes from 1990-93.
Teresa Brown, a sophomore from Windermere, Fla., tied for 37th place with an 83-80--163. Robyn Rinaldo, a junior from Dade City, Fla., tied for 52nd place with an 82-85--167, and Marci Kornegay, a sophomore from Savannah, Ga., tied for 52nd place with an 85-82--167. Lynn Ann Moretto, a freshman from Englewood, Colo., also tied for 52nd place with an 87-80--167 while competing individually for the Lady Rebels. Kim Tudor, a freshman from Winter Garden, Fla., tied for 65th place with an 86-83--169.
Duke won the tournament with a 307-313--620, followed by UCLA with a 308-315--623. Texas A&M's Anna Jonsson took individual medalist honors by firing a 74-71--145, four strokes ahead of Robin Cook of Auburn.
Ole Miss will be in action again April 2-4 at the Liz Murphey Classic in Athens, Ga., at the University Golf Course.
