OXFORD, Miss. -- Senior forward Johnnie Rogers scored 17 points, and senior Jason Smith added 13 points to highlight the second Ole Miss men's basketball scrimmage on Saturday. It was the team's final scrimmage of the preseason.

Rogers netted his 17 points on 5-of-8 shooting from the field, including 1-of-1 from the three-point line, and 6-of-10 from the free throw line. Smith netted his 13 points on 6-of-10 shooting from the floor and 1-of-3 from the free throw line.

"We really worked on our defense this week in practice, and I saw a lot of improvement in that area in our scrimmage today," said Ole Miss head coach Rod Barnes. "However, we still need to improve in other areas.

"I was impressed with Darrian Brown's play today. All of our newcomers are beginning to pick up on what we want to accomplish, and that's great. I was also pleased with the play of our seniors like Jason, Johnnie and Keith. They continue to show great leadership."

Brown scored seven points and had two rebounds, while junior Marcus Hicks recorded eight points and six rebounds. Senior All-America candidate Keith Carter had 10 points, and sophomore Rahim Lockhart added 12 points.

The Rebels open exhibition play on Tuesday, Nov. 3 versus the Spirit Express at 7:00 p.m. at Tad Smith Coliseum. Ole Miss will open regular-season action on Nov. 13 versus Alabama State at 7:00 p.m. at Tad Smith Coliseum.
