NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Dan Langhi scored 17 points to lead four Commodores in double figures as Vanderbilt beat Mississippi 79-64 Saturday night in the Southeastern Conference opener for both teams.
Vanderbilt (10-3) took a 42-36 lead at intermission after shooting 61 percent from the field in the first half. But the Commodores returned to the court cold and scored only 4 points in the first 9:38 of the second period.
Mississippi (10-4) took a 54-53 lead with 6:46 left on a 3-point shot by Jason Harrison.
The turning point came when James Strong's driving layup drew a foul and sparked a 26-10 Commodore run for the remainder of the game.
Strong scored 13 points for Vanderbilt. Anthony Williams finished with 12 points and 11 rebounds for his second straight double-double. Vince Ford scored 10.
Mississippi was led by Jason Smith's game-high 19 points. Marcus Hicks added 10.
The Rebels, entering the game shooting 50 percent from the field, were held to 37 percent by Vanderbilt's man-to-man defense.
