Men's Basketball Rolls Over Belmont, 91-42

OXFORD, Miss. (AP) - Keith Carter scored 18 points, including four 3-pointers, as Mississippi defeated Belmont 91-42 on Monday night to extend its school record home court winning streak to 22 games.

Ole Miss (2-0) has won 37 of its last 38 games at Tad Smith Coliseum, including a 41-point victory over Belmont last season.

Marcus Hicks made a layup just 15 seconds into the game, becoming the first of 12 different players to score for Ole Miss, which never trailed. Another layup by Hicks, with 9:11 left in the first half, made it 20-9 and put the Rebels up by double figures for the rest of the game.

Hicks, a junior college transfer, had 10 points on 5-of-7 shooting. Jason Smith added 11 points and seven rebounds for the Rebels, who shot 56 percent as a team (33-of-59).

Jeremy Kees was the only player in double figures for Belmont (0-2) with 14 points.

Ole Miss added on to its 40-20 halftime lead with a 17-3 run in the opening four minutes of the second half. Jon Cantrell had two 3-pointers in the spurt, while Carter and Michael White also had treys.

The final margin of 49 points was the largest in the game.

Ole Miss, which plays seven of its first eight games at home, plays at No. 7 Temple on Wednesday night.
