Ole Miss Soccer Team Defeats Jackson Futbol Club, 10-0

OXFORD, Miss - Amaris Smith of Ole Miss scored three goals and sophomores Jennifer Soileau and Regan Scanlon added two goals and an assist each to lead the Ole Miss Lady Rebel soccer squad to a 10-0 exhibition victory over the Jackson Futbol Club at the Ole Miss Soccer Stadium, Sunday afternoon.
Smith blasted her first goal over the Jackson goalkeeper's head in the 14th minute and followed it up with a header off a cross from Soileau in the 44th minute.
Soileau netted the first and last goals of the match. Her first goal was a 20-yard blast into the top-left corner of the goal, while her second goal in the 89th minute mark was the result of a penalty kick. Scanlon provided some more offensive punch from her forward position, scoring back-to-back goals at 54:00 and 56:45.
"JFC was very competitive and the score did not indicate the type of team they had," said head coach Steve Holeman. "We did a good job finishing. This game gave us some nice ideas for our opening season match."
Senior Leah Rutledge headed in the second goal of the game at the 12:00 minute mark while sophomore Mary Ann Moss (Jackson, Miss.) and freshman Ashley Martin rounded off the Rebel scoring with goals in the 63:00 and 77:00 minute respectively.
Ole Miss outshot Jackson 32-9 and held a 5-0 cornerkick advantage.
The contest was the Rebels' second and last exhibition game prior to the 1998 season. Ole Miss will open the regular season this Tuesday, Sept. 1, at 4:00 pm as the Lady Rebels travel to Hattiesburg, Miss., to face Southern Mississippi.
