OXFORD, Miss. The Ole Miss Rebel basketball team will host its first exhibition game versus the Spirit Express on Tuesday, Nov. 3 at 7:00 p.m. at Tad Smith Coliseum. Admission is $5 for the general public, while Ole Miss students will be admitted free with their University ID.
"Our players are excited about the exhibition game," said Rebel head coach Rod Barnes, who is in his first season at the helm of the program. "The players have worked very hard in practice the past two weeks. We know that we still have some areas in which we have to improve, but we hope this exhibition game will show us the progress that we have made, as a team, over the past two weeks."
The Rebels played two intra-squad scrimmages on Oct. 24 and Oct. 31. In the first scrimmage on Oct. 24, senior Jason Smith led all scorers with 23 points. Senior Johnnie Rogers led Ole Miss in the team's Oct. 31 scrimmage with 17 points.
Following Tuesday's contest, Ole Miss will play a second exhibition game on Nov. 9 versus North Melbourne, Australia. That game is also scheduled for a 7:00 p.m. start at Tad Smith Coliseum.
The Rebels will open regular-season play at Tad Smith Coliseum on Nov. 13 versus Alabama State. Game time is 7:00 p.m.
Ole Miss finished the 1997-98 season with a 22-7 overall record and a 12-4 Southeastern Conference mark. The Rebels won their second consecutive SEC Western Division title and received their second straight NCAA Tournament berth.
