OXFORD, Miss. -- The Ole Miss Lady Rebel soccer team will conclude its spring campaign on Saturday, Apr. 18 when it travels to Montgomery, Ala., to meet Alabama, Auburn and Southern Mississippi in round-robin action. The Lady Rebels will begin play on Saturday with a 9:00 a.m. contest versus Auburn. Ole Miss then will meet Alabama at 1:00 p.m. and Southern Mississippi at 5:00 p.m.

"Our practices have been extremely competitive this week," said Lady Rebel head coach Steve Holeman. "We have three tough games on Saturday, but we have prepared well for them. We've had a very successful spring to date, and we want to close out on a good note.

"The spring workouts have given us the opportunity to work on different systems that we may use and see how the players perform in different positions. Saturday's games will give us one final chance to make adjustments for the fall. We need to go into these games with a lot of confidence and intensity."

In their last action on Apr. 4, the Lady Rebels tied Vanderbilt, 2-2 and defeated Kentucky, 2-0 in Nashville. Freshman Sarah Wong scored one goal and assisted on another score to lead Ole Miss in the victory over Kentucky. Junior transfer Amaris Smith netted the Lady Rebels' other goal in the win over the Wildcats. In the Vanderbilt game, junior Tammy Zegledi and freshman Jennifer Soileau each scored a goal in the 2-2 tie.

Earlier this spring, Ole Miss defeated Alabama, 4-3 in the semifinals of the Lady Rebel Six-Aside Tournament on Mar. 21. The Lady Rebels went on to defeat Vanderbilt in the championship game of the tournament. Last fall, the Lady Rebels defeated Southern Mississippi, 4-0, but lost to Alabama, 3-0 and Auburn, 1-0.

Ole Miss will open its 1998 season on Sept. 1 versus Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg. The Lady Rebels will host their home opener on Sept. 5 versus Chattanooga at 12:00 p.m. Ole Miss finished its 1997 season with an 11-9 overall record and a 4-4 mark in Southeastern Conference play and earned the program's first-ever SEC Tournament berth.
