OXFORD, Miss. ? Former Ole Miss tennis standout Mahesh Bhupathi is seeking his third grand slam title this year as he and partner Leander Paes of India begin competing in the United States Open Tuesday at Flushing Meadows.

The pair, ranked No. 1 in the world and seeded No. 1, won the French Open Championships and Wimbledon earlier this year. They have reached the final four at the U.S. Open the last two years.

Bhupathi and Paes open their quest for a third grand slam title against Russia's Piet Norval and Kevin Ullyett.

While at Ole Miss, Bhupathi led the Rebels to the NCAA Championship team finals in 1995 and won the NCAA Doubles Championship. Bhupathi has won more than a million dollars in prize money and 15 career doubles' titles since turning pro in 1995.
