OXFORD, Miss. ? Pat Breen has joined the Ole Miss women's tennis staff as an assistant coach Lady Rebel head coach Jerry Montgomery announced Tuesday. Breen replaces Kevin Cory, who left to become the head women's tennis coach at UNLV.

"We are very fortunate to have a man like Pat Breen join our women's tennis program at Ole Miss," Montgomery said. "I am very impressed with his maturity, responsibility, and knowledge of the game. I am confident that he will help us achieve the goals that we have set this year."

Breen brings to Ole Miss 11 years of head coaching experience most recently at Samford University, where he spent the last eight years as the head men's and women's tennis coach. While at Samford, Breen was named Coach-of-the-Year in the Trans America Athletic Conference four times, twice with the women (1993, 1999) and twice with the men (1992, 1995).

In 1992 he led the men's team to the TAAC Championship and accomplished the feat again in 1995. Breen's women's teams were ranked in the top 15 in the South Region in 1991, 1995, 1997 and 1998, while the men's teams were voted among the top 15 in Region III, three straight years from 1992-94.

Prior to his coaching stint at Samford, Breen spent three years at Georgia Southern University as the head men's and women's tennis coach. He also served as head tennis director at Lake George Club in Lake George, N.Y., for two years and as an assistant tennis coach at his alma mater McNeese State University for one year.

Breen played one year at Abraham Baldwin College and earned All-American honors before going on to play three years at McNeese State where he graduated in 1988 with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. He later earned a Masters of Science in Sports Management at Georgia Southern in 1990.

The Lady Rebels enjoyed a banner season in 1999 by winning their first ever SEC Tournament title, advancing to the NCAA quarterfinals and ending the year ranked No. 6 in the nation.
