OXFORD, Miss. - Freshman Bridget Brooks' goal at the 54:44 mark lifted the Lady Rebels soccer team to a 1-0 victory over Idaho State at the Pacific Collegiate Showcase hosted by the University of Pacific in Stockton, Calif., Friday.
Ole Miss improves to 6-1 overall with the win, while Idaho State drops to 3-3-1.
"This was a good win for us and a good way to start the tournament," Ole Miss head coach Steve Holeman said. "We need to continue improving and take care of things one game at a time."
Idaho State outshot the Lady Rebels 10-8, but were unable to score as goalkeepers Birna Bjornsdottir and Melinda Smith combined to record five saves for Ole Miss. The win marks the third shutout of the season for the Lady Rebels and only the third time Ole Miss has allowed 10 or more shots on goal by an opponent.
Brooks' goal was her third of the season and first collegiate game-winning goal.
The Lady Rebels will take on Fresno State on Sunday at 11 a.m. CST. in the final round of the Pacific Collegiate Showcase.
