Lady Rebel Netter Takes Title At Roberta Alison Fall Classic

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Freshman Mira Radu of the Ole Miss women's tennis team captured the singles title at the Roberta Alison Fall Tennis Classic Sunday, to win her first collegiate title in her tournament debut as a Lady Rebel.

Radu defeated Galina Seliounina of the University of Houston in straight sets 7-5, 6-0. On her way to the title, Radu lost only one set in the tournament as she downed Linda Mattsson of Mississippi State 6-2, 6-0, dominated Maiku Cook of Tulane 6-1, 6-2 and came back to beat Alida Gallovits of Florida State 6-7(0), 7-5, 6-2.

Sophomore Alesya Ignatieva cruised to a 6-1, 6-0 win over Gallovits in the third/fourth place match. She reached the semifinals of the tournament before losing to Seliounina in a close 6-4, 7-6(0) match.

Senior Irena Mihailova went 3-1 in the tournament. In the first round, she defeated Mississippi State's Eimear Sloan 6-3, 7-6(3) before losing to Arkansas State's Gija Geme 6-1, 6- 3. In the backdraw, she posted victories over Alabama's Weyli Chang and Tulane's Anneli Axsater.

Also competing for the Lady Rebels, Camilla Gould picked up two wins in the tournament, straight set victories against Summa Edwards of Auburn and Olga Mikhailova of Tulane. Sophomore Julie Charvat defeated Angela Miller of Tennessee-Chattanooga 6-2, 6-3 in the first round before falling to Christy Travis of Florida State in the second round.

In doubles, Mihailova and Radu, playing together for the first time, reached the semifinals before losing to Ali Weber and Gallovits (FSU) 8-4. Charvat and Gould teamed up in doubles to go 2-2 in the tournament.

The Lady Rebels will now get ready for the T. Rowe Price National Clay Court Championships in Baltimore, Md. The qualifying tournament begins on Tuesday with the main draw starting on Thursday.
