BALTIMORE, Md. -- Rain forced the postponement of the start of the singles qualifying tournament at the T. Rowe Price National Clay Court Championships Tuesday, at the Suburban Country Club.

They did manage to get in some of the doubles matches, and Ole Miss' Fredrik Mellin and Alexander Hartman won their first round match against Greg Artzt and Russell Gimelstob of Cornell, 8-3. They will meet John Cheregi and Andreas Morifdakis of DePaul in the second round to be played late Tuesday evening. A win, and the pair would advance to the main draw doubles, later this week.

The first round of qualifying singles will begin Wednesday with Kristofer Stahlberg playing Nick Crowell of Texas, and Hartman meeting Johannes Michalsky of Baylor. Players must win two rounds to advance to the main draw.

In the women's qualifying tournament, senior Mariana Eberle will face Brooke Hart of Michigan in the first round, while freshman Mira Radu, who is coming off her first tournament title, will play Marlene Mejia of North Carolina.
