OXFORD, Miss. - Ole Miss freshman Bridget Brooks scored twice and junior Regan Scanlon added a goal to lead the Ole Miss Rebels to a 3-1 victory over in-state rival Mississippi State on Wednesday at the Ole Miss Soccer Complex.

Ole Miss improves to 9-2 overall and 4-1 in the Southeastern Conference, while the Bulldogs fall to 3-9 and 1-4 in the SEC.

"This is a great win for us. Our first two goals were perfect and our defense did a great job holding Mississippi State to two shots tonight," Ole Miss head coach Steve Holeman said. "Regan and Bridget have been playing really well for us and tonight was no exception."

Brooks put the Rebels on the board in the first half with her eighth goal of the season off a double assist from Scanlon and Jennifer Soileau. Brooks followed that goal up with another five minutes later off another double assist from Scanlon and Sarah Wong to give Ole Miss an early 2-0 advantage.

For the season, Brooks has scored nine goals on 18 shots and has three-game winning goals to her credit, including the game winner against the Bulldogs.

The Bulldogs' only shot in the first half was on target as Katie York brought Mississippi State within a goal at 2-1 with less than a minute remaining in the first half.

But, the Ole Miss defense continued to apply the pressure in the second half and held the Bulldogs without a shot until the 87th minute of the game.

Scanlon sealed the victory and gave Ole Miss a 3-1 lead with her eighth goal of the season off an assist from Amaris Weeks.

The Rebels travel to Albuquerque, N.M. to take on the New Mexico Lobos on Friday, Oct. 1 at 8:30 p.m. CST, and the Butler Bulldogs on Sunday, Oct. 3, at 11 a.m.
