OXFORD, Miss. - The Ole Miss rifle team begins its spring season Saturday at the University of Memphis Tiger Invitational. The Lady Rebels will shoot at 10 a.m. and will be joined by Tennessee-Martin, UAB, Saint Louis, Memphis and some other schools from Conference USA.

Ole Miss is coming off a successful fall campaign. The Lady Rebels twice broke the school record for highest team air rifle total, while freshman Maranda Stockton set a new Ole Miss mark for highest individual score. Stockton led the squad in her first semester with a 374.2 average and has qualified for the National Junior Olympics in February.

Joining Stockton and the Lady Rebels this spring is Jenny Curry, a senior who has competed on the Ole Miss women's soccer team the past four years. Saturday will be Curry's first experience in rifle competition. She will be called upon to help make up for the loss of sophomore Jill Barnes, who is academically ineligible for the spring semester. Barnes led the squad in average last year and was second in the fall.

Also competing this weekend will be senior Jessica Crockett and junior Samantha Ball.
