OXFORD, Miss. - Coming off a record-setting outing against Texas Christian on Sept. 23, the Ole Miss women's rifle team now prepares to host the Ole Miss Invitational Saturday and Sunday at the University Rifle Range. Ole Miss, Memphis, UT-Martin, Jacksonville State, and Alabama-Birmingham will be participating in the competition.
"We are really looking forward to competing in our first home invitational," said Ole Miss head coach Valerie Boothe. "The team is really looking forward to the challenge this weekend."
In their last outing, Ole Miss (1-0-0) set a team scoring record in air rifle with a score of 1463 against TCU. That mark eclipsed the old mark of 1459 set in the 1999 Buckeye Invitational. Katie Trickett, a freshman from Woburn, Mass., also set an individual record with a score of 384. That mark broke the record of 383 set by Maranda Stockton against Memphis in 1999-00. The Sept. 23 match against TCU was Trickett's first collegiate competition.
Following the Ole Miss Invitational, Ole Miss will be back in action against Austin Peay on Oct. 29 at the University Rifle Range.
