Rebel Netter Defeats Top 20 Player At UT Fall Classic

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - Junior Kristofer Stahlberg of the Ole Miss men's tennis team posted a big win on the first day of competition at the University of Tennessee Fall Classic Friday afternoon.

Stahlberg won both his matches in the ranked players draw including posting a top 20 victory. The ranked draw is being played in a round-robin format. In his first match, Stahlberg downed Jason Ontog of Tennessee-Chattanooga, who is ranked No. 80 in the nation, 6-3, 6-2. Then in his second match, he rallied to knock off 20th-ranked Adam Carey 6-7, 6-1, 15-13. All third sets are being played using the supertiebreaker format where the first player to10 points by two wins. Stahlberg will play two more matches tomorrow and then two on Sunday.

In the Flight A singles draw, Conor Casey defeated A. Antonijevick of Stetson 6-4, 6-4 before losing a hard-fought match to A. Jung of UAB 5-7, 6-1, 10-4. Also in Flight A singles, sophomore Patrick Chucri beat S. Tremblry of Tennessee Tech 7-6, 6-1 and then came back to defeat UAB's Tom Dalby 2-6, 6-2, 10-8 in the second round.

Senior David Blackburn advanced to the third round in Flight B singles. He won by default in the first round and then defeated J. Kirts of Louisville 6-3, 6-4. Jim Jacobs downed M. Gregory of Austin Peay 6-2, 6-2 in the first round and then lost to M. Dimitrov of Bethune Cookman 6-3, 6-4 in the second round.
