Rebel Soccer Closes Regular Season With 3-0 UAB Win

OXFORD, Miss. - Seniors Regan Scanlon and Jennifer Soileau scored goals on the Rebels' Senior Night as the Ole Miss soccer team knocked off UAB, 3-0, Friday in the final game of the UM regular season.
Ole Miss (13-5-1, 5-3-1 SEC), the 2000 SEC West Champions, scored on the first shot attempt of the game, when Scanlon connected at the 4:04 mark (6). Senior Jessica O'Neill, playing her final game at Ole Miss Soccer Stadium, and sophomore Courtney Biddle picked up assists on the goal.
In the 11th minute, Soileau, the Rebels' all-time leading scorer, fired a 23-yard shot that deflected off a defender and into the net for her seventh goal of the season. Just before the half, Ole Miss struck again off freshman Amy Sample's fifth goal of the year, a 16-yarder at the 43:08 mark.
The Rebels dominated the game, outshooting the Blazers (3-14-2, 2-8-1 C-USA) 26-4 and drawing an 11-0 advantage on corner kicks. The victory gives the Rebels their highest regular season win total ever with 13.
"This was a great way to end the final regular season for our seniors," said Ole Miss head coach Steve Holeman. "We did a great job of possessing the ball and creating opportunities for goals tonight."
Postseason begins for Ole Miss Thursday at the SEC Tournament in Athens, Ga. With Tennessee defeating Georgia, 4-3, in double overtime Friday night in Knoxville, the No. 2 seed Rebels will face No. 7 seed UGA in the opening round, Thursday at 6:30 p.m (CST). Ole Miss defeated Georgia, 3-2, on Oct. 20 in Athens.
