Ole Miss Rifle Has Another Stellar Weekend

OXFORD, Miss.-- The Ole Miss rifle team completed its fall season on a positive note by taking first place at the Wolf Creek Invitational in Atlanta on Saturday. They also took third place honors at Jacksonville State on Sunday.

At the Wolf Creek Invitational, the Lady Rebels scored a 1486 in air rifle. Misty Ballard paced Ole Miss with a 378. Katie Trickett scored a 376. Maranda Stockton and Kristin Parker shot a 366. Samantha Ball, who competed as an individual, scored a 361 for the Lady Rebels.

At Jacksonville State, Ole Miss scored a 1500 in air rifle. That score tied their season best set at the Walsh Invitational on Nov. 3. Katie Trickett led the Lady Rebels with a score of 386. Misty Ballard scored a 374 and Kristin Parker had a 371. Maranda Stockton completed the Lady Rebels scoring with a 369.

In smallbore, the Lady Rebels shot a team total of 4425. Katie Trickett led Ole Miss with a 1129. Maranda Stockton scored a 1101 and Misty Ballard shot a 1099. Kristin Parker scored a 1095 and Samantha Ball, who competed as an individual, shot a 1077.

"I think we had a good weekend of competition," said Ole Miss rifle coach Valerie Boothe. "I'm proud of them for performing well this weekend. This break comes at a good time for us. Now we have to set higher goals for the spring."

The Lady Rebels will be back in action on Jan. 13, 2001, when they travel to El Paso, Texas to compete in the Southwest Invitational.
