Rebels Fall to Georgia, 71-65

ATHENS, Ga. (AP) - D.A. Layne scored 15 points, had two key late assists on alley-oop passes and a steal in the final three minutes as Georgia snapped a five-game losing streak with a 71-65 victory over Mississippi on Saturday.
Georgia (10-14, 3-8 Southeastern Conference) led 58-56 when Layne fed Shon Coleman on the first dunk at the 2:56 mark and 26 seconds later he connected with Adrian Jones for another dunk that stretched the lead to 62-56. Ole Miss (15-8, 3-7) never got closer than three points the rest of the way.
Leading 66-62, Layne came up with a steal with 16 seconds left, He made three of four free throws in the final 13 seconds and Jones made two others to provide the final margin.
Jason Harrison led the Rebels with 16 points and Rahim Lockhart added 11 points and 13 rebounds.
Coleman added 13 points and 13 rebounds and Anthony Evans 10 points and 10 rebounds for the Bulldogs.
Ole Miss played the final 16:36 without its leading scorer, Marcus Hicks, who was ejected when he picked up his second technical foul. He had scored only three points, 12 below his average.
Ole Miss was leading 32-31 on a Hicks basket just before he departed. Coleman made one of two shots after being fouled and Layne hit one of two on the technical, to give Georgia a 33-32 lead. The Bulldogs also didn't convert when it retained possession.
Georgia went ahead for good when Layne hit a 3-pointer from the top with 11:32 remaining for a 42-40 advantage.
