OXFORD, Miss. - The Ole Miss women's golf team opens its spring season this weekend at the Suntrust Lady Gator Invitational in Gainesville, Fla. The 54-hole tournament will run Friday through Sunday starting at 8 a.m. each day at the par 72, 5,821-yard University of Florida Golf Course.
The tournament field includes No. 8 LSU, No. 12 Auburn, No. 18 South Carolina, No. 19 Mississippi State, Arkansas, South Florida, Furman, Central Florida, Alabama, Florida State, Miami and Vanderbilt. Ole Miss placed ninth in last year's event.
The Lady Rebels are coming off an up-and-down fall season. Ole Miss rebounded with a top five finish at the Palmetto Intercollegiate, the last event of the fall, and hopes to carry some of that momentum over to the spring, where the squad will be in search of a third straight NCAA Tournament berth.
Senior Robyn Rinaldo, a 1999 All-SEC first team selection, led the team in the fall with three top 20 finishes and a 76.27 stroke average, 16th best in the conference. She will be competing this weekend as well as Teresa Brown, Elizabeth Hoffman, Bernadette Luse and Marci Kornegay.
Brown, a junior from Windermere, Fla., placed first in the team's qualifier, and will be looking for her fourth career top 20 finish. She placed 25th at last year's Lady Gator and tied her career two-round low with a 155.
