OXFORD, Miss. - Fresh off their 1999 Southeastern Conference Western Division championship, the Ole Miss women's soccer team signed five players for the upcoming 2000 season.

The Rebels, who finished the 1999 season with a 14-9 overall record, spanned the country for its signees, pulling in players from California, Colorado, Kentucky and North Carolina.

"Our coaching staff work very hard to get this group of players," Ole Miss head coach Steve Holeman said. "This is a very good class that will compete for starting positions as freshman and give us quality depth at each position."

Jennifer Gibson signed with the Rebels after being named the Kentucky High School Player of the Year and a NSCAA High School All-American in 1999.

A native of Prospect, Ky., Gibson played for South Oldham High School and led the team to state championships in 1996, 1998 and 1999.

Erin Edmendson comes to Ole Miss from Raleigh, N.C., where she played at Broughton High School. A 5-foot-10 inch defender, Edmendson displayed sound technique and aggressiveness during her high school career.

Brittany Gillespie is the only goalkeeper in the Rebels signing class. A native of Modesto, Calif., Gillespie played for Fred C. Beyer High School and was named to the academic all-conference team.

Erin Cooper is one of two players from Highlands Ranch, Colo., to sign with the Rebels. A forward who can also play at the outside midfield position, Cooper carries a 3.8 grade point average at Highlands Ranch High School.

Cooper is joined by teammate and Highlands Ranch native Jenni Moats. A 5-foot-9 inch defender, Moats was an All-State performer in the Colorado High School League.

"Jenni has tremendous athletic ability and we look forward to her and Erin making a huge impact for us in the fall," Holeman added.
