OXFORD, Miss. - The Ole Miss men's tennis team is ranked No. 10 in this week's WingspanBank.com rankings as they get ready to host South Florida and Vanderbilt this weekend at the Palmer/Salloum Tennis Center.
The Rebels come into the weekend with a 9-3 overall record, 2-1 in the SEC. They will face South Florida Friday at 2:00 p.m. and then meet Vanderbilt Sunday at 1:00 p.m., following the women's match against Auburn.
In their last action, the Rebels dropped a 5-2 decision to No. 2 Florida in Gainesville, last Sunday. Florida won the doubles point and took straight-set wins at the top three positions for the victory.
Sophomore Kristofer Stahlberg went undefeated last week posting a 6-0 record in singles and doubles. He defeated Florida's Olivier Levant 6-3, 6-7(6), 1-0 (10-8) for one of Ole Miss' two points in the match.
South Florida comes into the match with a 8-12 overall record. They participated in the Blue-Gray Invitational last weekend and defeated Virginia Tech 7-0 and Tulane 4-1, and lost to VCU 4-1 and William & Mary 4-3. The Bulls are led by Fabio Tintori, who upset the nation's top player, Daniel Andersson of VCU, at the Blue-Gray. The Rebels defeated South Florida 6-1 last year in Oxford.
On Sunday, the Rebels will host Vanderbilt. Vanderbilt owns a 6-11 overall record, 0-4 in the SEC. The Commodores play Middle Tennessee Thursday and travel to Alabama on Saturday, before Sunday's match. The Commodores are led by 29th-ranked Andrew Nisker, winner of the SEC Indoor singles title, earlier this year.
