Lady Rebels Pick Up Win At Mississippi State, 7-2

STARKVILLE, Miss. - The Ole Miss Lady Rebel tennis team defeated in-state SEC rival Mississippi State Lady Bulldogs 7-2 in Starkville, Miss. Thursday afternoon. The win was the Lady Rebels' 12th consecutive over Mississippi State, including nine consecutive regular season victories.
The match started with Celeste Frey picking up the first Lady Rebel point at No. 3 singles, when Carole Soubis retired at 5-0 in the first set. Ole Miss went on to win at No. 6 singles when Alesya Ignatieva defeated Anca Vasilsaica, 6-3, 6-4. At No. 1 singles, Ole Miss' Ivona Mihailova defeated Amelie Detriviere, 7-5, 6-1 before Mississippi State got on the board at No. 2 singles when Ivana Belancic defeated Julie DeRoo, 4-6, 6-1, 6-0.
Ole Miss came back to take the No. 5 singles point as Mira Radu defeated Andrew Lord, 6-1, 5-6, 6-1. The Lady Rebels clinched the match at No. 4 singles when Mariana Eberle defeated Claudia Oliveira, 6-0, 4-6, 7-6.
In doubles action, Ole Miss took two-of-three from the Lady Bulldogs. At No. 1 doubles, the Lady Rebel pair of DeRoo and Eberle defeated Detriviere and Oliveira, 8-4. Mississippi State got its only doubles points at No. 2 doubles when Lord and Belancic defeated Frey and Irena Mihailova, 8-6. Ole Miss closed out the match with a victory at No. 3 singles as Ivona Mihailova and Ignatieva defeated Linda Mattson and Vasilsaica, 9-7.
The women look to build on the win as they host third-ranked Georgia in SEC action at 1:00 p.m. on April 2 at the Palmer/Salloum Tennis Center.
