BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Ole Miss women's soccer team has been selected to repeat as Southeastern Conference Western Division Champions, as voted by the league's 12 head coaches. The Rebels edged Arkansas with 55 points, and received one more first-place vote (6) than the Lady Razorbacks.

"I think it shows we've gained some respect in the league," said Ole Miss head coach Steve Holeman."We're excited about the notoriety, but we're not going to put a lot of emphasis on it. Now, we have to go out on the field this season and prove we're deserving of the honor."

For the sixth consecutive year, Florida, who has won four straight SEC titles, was tabbed to claim the conference championship, earning eight of the 12 votes. Kentucky garnered three votes, and Vanderbilt took one. That trio of teams was also picked 1-2-3 in the Eastern Division, followed by Georgia, South Carolina and Tennessee.

In the West, Alabama was selected third, followed by Auburn, which received one first- place vote, LSU and Mississippi State.

Ole Miss returns four senior starters from last year's division champion squad in Jennifer Soileau, Jessica O'Neill, Regan Scanlon and Sarah Wong. Soileau was named First Team All- SEC the last two years.

The Lady Rebels open the 2000 season Aug. 25 in San Diego, Calif., against San Diego State. Ole Miss' home opener is against Southern Miss Sept. 8 at 7 p.m.
