OXFORD, Miss. - The Ole Miss soccer team has added championship experience with the signing of University of Florida transfer Kristin Chapman, a sophomore midfielder. Rebel head coach Steve Holeman announced Monday the addition of Chapman, who will be eligible for the upcoming 2000 season.

"Kristin is probably the best player ever to come out of the state of Mississippi," Holeman said. "She is a very talented player - athletic, fast and hard working. "She's also extremely versatile and will solidify our defense. We're very excited to have her here."

A native of Vicksburg, Miss., Chapman played 16 games for the SEC Champion Gators last season. She was a 1998 Parade All-American at Vicksburg High School, where she became the state's all-time goal scorer with 126 over her prep career. Chapman earned Mississippi High School Player of the Year honors four times and led her team to three state championships.

Ole Miss opens the 2000 season Friday in San Diego, Calif., against San Diego State. The Rebels' home opener is against Southern Miss Sept. 8 at 7 p.m.
