OXFORD, Miss. - Courtney Biddle notched her first career hat trick as the Ole Miss soccer team knocked off Northern Arizona, 5-1, Friday night at Ole Miss Soccer Stadium. Bridget Brooks also netted a pair of goals as the Rebels extend their winning streak to six games.
Brooks, a sophomore forward from Shreveport, La., opened the scoring 22:19 in on a 10-yard goal, assisted by Jennifer Soileau. Less than 30 seconds later, Brooks struck again from 15 yards out with Michaela Collins picking up the assist. Brooks' fifth goal of the season put the Rebels up 2-0.
Ole Miss (6-2) increased its lead at the 35:28 mark on a Biddle header. Jenni Moats earned the assist. Biddle, a sophomore forward from Pittsburgh, Pa., picked up her second goal 31 seconds later off an interception and 16-yard kick. Biddle's final goal came on a six-yard header, Amy Sample assisting, in the 75th minute.
"It was probably the best game of Courtney's career," said Ole Miss head coach Steve Holeman. "It's great to have so much depth that a player can come off the bench for a hat trick. It was great for her to break loose, and hopefully it will continue."
Northern Arizona (3-8) got on the scoreboard at the 63:36 mark when a Raegin Eyre's shot deflected off UM goalkeeper Brittany Gillespie's hand into the net. Holly Jones picked up the assist.
Ole Miss is back in action Sunday, when the Rebels host New Mexico. Game time is set for 1 p.m. at Ole Miss Soccer Stadium.
