OXFORD, Miss.-- The Ole Miss soccer team opens Southeastern Conference play this weekend at home against a pair of Western Division foes. The Rebels host LSU Friday at 7 p.m. at Ole Miss Soccer Stadium, and Arkansas Sunday at 1 p.m.
Ole Miss (7-2) rides in on a school-record seven-game winning streak. The Rebels' previous long streak came in 1998, when the team opened the season with six straight wins. Ole Miss is ranked 10th in the Central Region by both the NSCAA and Soccer Buzz.
Sophomore forward Bridget Brooks is the reigning SEC Player of the Week after notching a pair of two-goal games in last weekend's victories over Northern Arizona and New Mexico. A Rebel has claimed the weekly honor in three out of five weeks this season.
LSU enters Friday's match with the conference's best record at 9-1. The Tigers opened SEC play last weekend with a 1-0 win over Arkansas. Led by sophomore forward Kara Dean's nine goals and 20 points, LSU has outscored its opponents 32-6 this season.
Arkansas (2-5-2, 0-1 SEC) has dropped two of its last three and faces Mississippi State Friday before traveling to Oxford on Sunday. The Lady Backs are led by freshman forward Courtney Schaub and her team-high three goals.
