OXFORD, Miss. - The No. 19 nationally-ranked Ole Miss women's tennis team downed 65th-ranked Middle Tennessee 7-0 Monday afternoon at the Gillom Sports Center to open the 2001 season.

In singles, the Lady Rebels quickly went up 2-0 as seventh-ranked Julie DeRoo downed Tanja Buccheim of MTSU 6-4, 6-0. Junior Alesya Ignatieva gave Ole Miss a 3-0 advantage defeating Igne Weirich 6-0, 4-6, 6-2 at No. 3 singles. Freshman Hanna-Katri Aalto won her first dual match taking care of Michaela Gridling at No. 2 singles, 6-4, 6-2, to clinch the victory for the Lady Rebels.
Mira Radu dominated Stacey Varnell 6-2, 6-0 at No. 5 singles, Karem Harboe beat Carine Venter 6-3, 6-4 at No. 4 singles and then Audra Adams finished off the scoring with a 6-1, 6-4 defeat of Niger Kaur at the sixth spot.
