Rebel Netter Advances To Quarterfinals At SEC Indoor

NORCROSS, Ga.- Sophomore Alex Hartman of the Ole Miss men's tennis team advanced to the quarterfinals at the SEC Coaches Men's Indoor Championships Friday, with a pair of straight-set wins.
Hartman, the No. 7 seed, downed Lewis Smith of Vanderbilt 6-2, 6-3 in the second round, and then handed Georgia's Nicolas Boeker a 7-5, 6-2 loss in the round of 16. He will face Mississippi State's Marco Baron in the quarterfinals, Saturday morning.
Hartman defeated Baron in the round of 16 at last year's SEC Indoor Championships. The match took three sets with Hartman winning in a tiebreaker. Baron owns a 3-1 lifetime record against Hartman.
In other singles action, Kristofer Stahlberg got to the round of 16 with an easy 6-2, 6-3 win over Vanderbilt's Chad Harris but lost in the third round to Mark Parsons of Tennessee, 7-5, 2-6, 6-3. Senior James Shortall dropped his second round match to Auburn's Tiago Ruffoni 4-6, 7-5, 7-5(1).
Stahlberg and freshman Conor Casey bowed out in second-round doubles to Andy Crews and Peter Handoyo of Tennessee, 8-4.
