OXFORD, Miss. - Coming off their first-ever win at the Tiger Invitational in Memphis last weekend, the Ole Miss rifle team prepares to hit the road for matches at UT-Martin on Friday and the Withrow Invitational, hosted by Murray State on Saturday.
"I feel good about this weekend's competition," said Ole Miss rifle coach Valerie Boothe. "We will face some excellent competition and this will help us as we get ready for the NCAA Collegiate Sectional on Feb. 11."
In the Tiger Invitational, Misty Ballard, a junior from Glen, Miss., finished third overall with a 377 in air rifle. The Lady Rebels scored a 1492 to finish ahead of Memphis, who scored a 1488.
Katie Trickett, a freshman from Woburn, Mass., currently leads the team in both smallbore and air rifle. She is averaging 1120.4 in smallbore and 380.2 in air rifle. Trickett currently holds the school record in air rifle with a 386, set in a dual match with Arkansas and Austin Peay on Oct. 28-29, 2000. She also holds the school mark in smallbore with a 1130, set at the Walsh Invitational on Nov. 3, 2000.
Following this weekends competition, the Lady Rebels will be back in action on Feb. 11, when they return to Murray State to participate in the NCAA Collegiate Sectional.
