STONE MOUNTAIN, Ga. - Ole Miss men's tennis player Alex Hartman advanced to the quarterfinals at the ITA All-American Championships Friday with a 4-0, ret., win over Steve Berke of Princeton.
Hartman, ranked No. 6 in the nation, is in the quarterfinals of a grand slam tournament for the second time in his career. He also reached the quarterfinals of the T. Rowe Price National Clay Court Championships last year.
"Alex is playing well right now," head coach Billy Chadwick said. "For him to be among the final eight at one of the top collegiate tournaments is a tribute to his hard work and dedication. Hopefully he can continue to play well tomorrow and reach the final."
One of five seeds remaining in the tournament, Hartman will meet South Alabama's Kosta Zinchanka of South Alabama Saturday at 9 a.m. ET. Zinchanka upset the No. 5 seed in the opening round Thursday.
If Hartman wins his quarterfinal match, he would face the winner of the Michael Kogan (Tulane)/Tiago Ruffoni (Auburn) winner in the semifinals that afternoon.
