COOKEVILLE, Tenn. - The Ole Miss rifle team came up short in the OVC/GARC Invitational this weekend, despite breaking several school and personal records in the effort.
Senior Misty Ballard set a personal high in the smallbore competition with a 1123 while pacing the Rebels. Her performance also helped push her team to a new school record in the smallbore competition with a total score of 4464. The previous high was 4461 set at the Walsh Invitational during the 2000-01 season.
The air rifle portion of the competition proved to be the toughest part for the Rebels as Ole Miss finished with a score of 1499. Freshman Shanda Duval paced the team with a score of 379, the highest of her career.
"I am a little disappointed in our performance in air rifle, but the improvement we have shown in smallbore is tremendous," said Ole Miss head coach Valerie Boothe. "I am not upset with our finish, though, because all of our competition made it to the NCAA Championships this past season."
The Rebels will compete again this weekend as the team hosts the Ole Miss Invitational here in Oxford, Miss. The competition will be held on Friday and Saturday at the Ole Miss rifle range behind Guyton Hall on the Ole Miss Campus.
