OXFORD, Miss. - The Ole Miss Rifle team will look to claim its first tournament win of the season this weekend as it hosts the Ole Miss Invitational. The invitational is the second time that the team will compete on campus this season.
Ole Miss has competed in a dual match with UT-Martin and at the OVC/GARC Invitational this season with results improving steadily in each meet. The constant rise in scores has Ole Miss head coach Valerie Boothe excited about what her team can do this weekend.
"I feel good about our team," Boothe said. "We have been doing better in practice and it should be good for the team to have different people to push them at the line in competition. I think this will be a great weekend for us."
The Rebels set a new team high score in smallbore competition with a 4471 at the OVC/GARC Invitational behind the leadership of senior Misty Ballard, who also set a new personal best with a score of 1123.
Also competing in the Invitational will be Memphis, Texas Christian University, Birmingham Southern, Austin Peay State University and some individual junior teams. The teams will shoot at 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. on Friday. Shooting will resume on Saturday at 9 a.m., 11 a.m., and 1 p.m.
The Rebels will compete again on Sunday when the team travels to Memphis for the Tiger Invitational.
