Rebel Netter Advances To Final At Ole Miss Fall Classic

OXFORD, Miss. - Paul Ciorascu of the Ole Miss men's tennis team continued his excellent play this fall by advancing to the final of the Ole Miss Fall Classic Saturday. He will face Vanderbilt's Bobby Reynolds at 9 a.m. Sunday at the Gillom Sports Center.
His semifinal match pitted Ciorascu against Vanderbilt's Scott Brown. Ciorascu won the match 6-4, 6-4 to reach the final. In the quarterfinals, Ciorascu downed Mississippi State's Rene Charles Combette, ranked No. 33 in the nation, 6-4, 6-0. It was his second win over a top 40 player this fall as he also posted a win over 29th-ranked Daniel Kiernan of LSU.
This will be the first final of a tournament for Ciorascu, a sophomore, who now owns a 12-4 record. He reached the quarterfinals at the Omni Hotels Region III Championships earlier this fall.
Brown knocked off 24th-ranked Rebel Kristofer Stalhberg in a hotly-contested three-set match 4-6, 7-6(4), 6-4 in the quarterfinals.
Ciorascu's opponent, Reynolds, defeated Ole Miss' Martin Selin in a close 6-3, 7-6(2) semifinal match. Selin was down 0-3 in the second set and rallied to go ahead 5-4. He was serving to force a third set, but Reynolds got the break back before winning the tiebreaker. Selin reached the semifinals by defeating 64th-ranked Mariano Pettigrosso of Arkansas-Little Rock 7-5, 3-6, 6-4.
